About this event

Family & Education • Education

Forest School is an inspirational process that offers children, young people and adults regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem, through hands-on learning experiences in a local woodland environment. Forest Schools help children develop holistically, by providing opportunities for child led play, discovery, and supported risk taking through activities like tree climbing, fire lighting and tool use.

For more information on forest school, what your child might get up to and what they will need please see our Parents and Carers Guide. We also have a guide for neurodivergent children to help them preplan their day and know what to expect. If you would like this please email thehive@walthamforest.gov.uk.

Come join us, bright eyed and bushy tailed for fun and adventure in Epping Forest and on our 7 acre site.

Session suitable for ages 5 to 11.

Sessions last from 10am to 3pm but earlier pick-up can be arranged with sufficient notice

£42 per child per session (this includes eventbrite booking fees). We are able to offer a discount of 10% for booking all 3 days . Please email thehive@walthamforest.gov.uk for details.

Each child will need a nut-free packed lunch. Children can also bring a snack for the fire (anything that can be stuck on a stick works!)

Frequently asked questions

Is there parking?

Parking will be available for drop off and pick up of attending children.

What if my child is younger or older than the age range?

Children must be over five to attend due Ofsted regulations and activities will be appropriate for under 11s.

When should we arrive?

Please aim to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the event so we can have the maximum amount of time in the forest.

Do you cancel in adverse weather conditions?

Our events will run in almost all weathers - Please make sure that you check the forecast and dress your child appropriately. In high winds we would not use the woodland but have plenty of activities that we can do in our grounds or building.

What does my child need to wear or bring?

All information on clothing and what to bring can be found on our website at: https://thehiveintheforest.co.uk/forestschool_dropoff

What is the cancellation policy?

If you cancel with more than 7 days' notice, we can offer a refund (minus the booking fee). If you cancel with less than 7 days' notice, you will be charged in full. In the unlikely event that we need to cancel, you will be offered a full refund or exchange date.
