Around 1.5 miles with information stops along the way.
Up to 90 minutes, steady pace.
Join us for a guided walk through Shady Lane Arboretum. Presented by the volunteer Tree Wardens, this seasonal stroll takes in selected trees and explores the theme of ‘autumn colour’. The Tree Wardens will provide interesting snippets of information to enjoy, as you wander around this beautiful green space. The walk starts from entrance C to Shady Lane Arboretum, situated on Shady Lane just after St Denys Church. See 'travel' for information about planning your journey. Our route will include some soft (unsurfaced) paths, which may be muddy after rain - please wear appropriate footwear. We regret this is not an accessible walk. This walk is free to attend but places must be booked.
This walk is a collaboration between the Leicester Tree Wardens and the Choose How You Move project.
Booking
This short walk is free to attend, but numbers are limited so please book via Eventbrite to secure your place or phone 0116 373 7589 when booking has opened. Please note our phone line is answered during office hours only (Monday to Friday, 9am-5.30pm), not at weekends or bank holidays. Places do not need to be booked for children, but they must be accompanied by an adult.
If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel via Eventbrite or contact us by phone (during office hours)so we can allow others the opportunity to attend.
Travel
Evington village is served by buses. If you are travelling on foot from Evington's Main Street, take High Street then Church Road and pass St Denys Church. Shortly afterwards, the gate on the right is 'entrance C' to Shady Lane Arboretum. If travelling by car, there is a car park for the arboretum further south on Shady Lane. Allow time to walk from the car park to the start point. For help planning your journey on foot, by cycle, public transport or by car, check out the Choose How You Move Journey Planner.
New Walkers
If you have not walked with Leicester City Council before we will ask you to complete our Walker Registration form in advance of the walk online or by phone. You will receive an email with a link to the online form in the days leading up to the event. You only need to do this once and can attend any of our walks thereafter (subject to booking a place on Eventbrite).
Dress for the weather
Remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Our group walks will go ahead in most weather. We recommend the following:
- Comfortable sturdy footwear
- Bring a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain
- On cooler days wear appropriate layers and a coat/jacket
- On warmer days a sunhat and sunscreen are recommended.
Please bring a bottle of water with you.
Group size
We kindly ask walkers to book their place, so we can keep our group size manageable.
Self-guided routes
If you have been unable to book onto one of our group walks, or you prefer to explore with your family or friends, self-guided routes are available to download from the routes page of our Choose How You Move website or via the Go Jauntly smartphone app. For other ideas, do check out our Walk Inspiration page which features walk videos and quiz trails. Enjoy exploring Leicester this summer.
The walk starts at entrance C to Shady Lane Arboretum. If you are on foot from Evington village, the entrance gate is located just after St Denys Church, on Shady Lane.
