Event description

Description

Avalanche Transceiver Training for Eagle Ski Club and Alpine Ski Club members.

This session concentrates on practising the skills needed to recover avalanche victims, from both single and multiple burials.

We will start with a review of avalanche safety equipment; modern triple antenna transceivers, shovels and probes. Then we will revise the most efficient and effective use of the transceiver to recover a buried victim before spending the majority of the session practising retrieving hidden victims.

The course runs for 3 hours and in that time you will practise full-scale over areas measuring 60m x 100m, starting out of range to truly replicate the experience. You will have the opportunity to consolidate the learning and locate 6 victims and also experience 2 x 3 person burials where you have to locate multiple victims. By the end of the session, you should be able to find a victim in less than 5 minutes.

We will also discuss probing and shovelling techniques as well as which are the most effective tools.

Bring your own transceiver, shovel and probe as the best transceiver is the one you know how to use and have practised with!

Parking:

There is paid parking at Jacksons Boat Pub or at Sale Water Park Metro station.

Public Transport:

Sale Water Park Metro stop is within easy walking distance.

Who delivers the training?

The training will be run by Susie Amann who has been delivering transceiver training for Henrys Avalanche Talk since 2014. This event is tailored for ESC and ASC members and only open to club members.

It is really worthwhile practising these skills in the UK but don’t just take our word for it – here is some feedback from last year:

''I thoroughly enjoyed the course. It was nice and succinct without skipping over details, and the practical element was thorough and well-planned. Susie is an excellent trainer, with bags of practical experience which really enhances the training'.

'Although I attended the same course a year ago, I still found this session really worthwhile as I haven’t had the opportunity to practice in the meantime and you don’t get good by trying something just once.'

‘Many thanks for all of your guidance and assistance on Saturday. Whilst the weather was not ideal, it was still so much more practical and comfortable than the mountain snow for learning and practicing these rescue skills.'

‘Just a quick message to say how much I enjoyed the beeper training yesterday and how useful it was. Having just invested in a beeper, probe and shovel it was great to be able to get instruction on how to use the equipment before heading out this season.'

'I thought the course was really well delivered, with clear instruction in a friendly, open environment. You covered all the essentials really well and I came away feeling I'd learnt not only how to use the equipment but also how to react in a calm, efficient manner should the need ever arise. '

'10 out of 10.'
