Event description

Description

''Meditation is not a means to an end; there is no end, no arrival; it is a movement in time and out of time. Every system, method, binds thought to time, but choiceless awareness of every thought and feeling, understanding of their motives, their mechanism, allowing them to blossom, is the beginning of meditation." --J. Krishnamurti

Awakin gatherings started when three friends got together in 1996 to sit in silence, every Wednesday, in an ordinary living room in Silicon Valley. No teachers or gurus. No set agendas or proposed beliefs either. Just one strong principle -when you change within, the world changes. And instead of closing the door, they left it open ... to all.

Today, Awakin Circles have organically rippled to eighty cities around the globe. People meditate for the first hour, engage in a circle of reflective sharing in the second hour, and conclude the night by receiving a delicious home-cooked meal. A palpable sense of gratitude and community weaves through it all. The ripples of inner transformation are countless - and continue on.

Every month, a few of us come together to sit in silence for an hour, share some aha-moments for the second hour and often have a light meal afterward. There no teachers, or agendas. Inspired by many others, who have done this for decades, Awakin Circles offer a space to come together and share in a context of stillness, community, and service.

Museum of Happiness founders Shamash and Vicky attended their first Awakin gathering about 5 years and were so moved by the kindness and sense of community they experienced, they felt called to share this further and through the support of many heads, hearts and hands...their laybour of love, Museum of Happiness was born!

It is an honor and privilege for us at the Museum of Happiness to have the opportunity to host Awakin Circles, as they have played such an integral part in our own personal journeys and continue to support and inspire us greatly as an organisation. We hope these circles can provide others with the nourishment, peace, and sense of community that we have experienced over the years attending these gatherings.

Flow of the event

7:15PM - An hour of collective silence; where we listen to ourselves. It's unguided, without any instructions or music. For first-timers, this primer on meditation may be helpful

8:15PM- A short reading (sent out earlier via email), followed by a circle of sharing of "aha" moments from everyday life. This is an opportunity to listen deeply to others. Sharing is optional and if you'd rather continue to bless the space with your silience and deep listening, that is totally fine too...there is no pressure

9.00PM - Vegan community co-created dinner and socialising.

9.45PM - Home time :-)

Co-created Vegan Community Dinner

If you feel moved to contribute to the community vegan potluck dinner, you can do so by bringing along a main dish, side dish, dessert or drink of your choice-this is an invitation and not an expectation :-) Any food left over will be shared with the homeless on the way home.

There is no charge for this event, it is offered as a gift and people are invited to pay-it-forward to the world in their own ways.

With love and gratitude,

Vicky, Shamash and the Service Space family x
