Should we have quotas in the Judiciary? – A Discussion Event
Whilst there has been an improvement of diversity within the legal system the judiciary still remain largely white male especially within the senior judiciary. Baroness Hale remains the only female Supreme Court Justice having been appointed over 10 years ago. It has been widely recognised that diversity within the judiciary needs to be improved but there remains debate over whether quotas or targets should be introduced.
So should quotas be introduced to the judiciary?
We will be joined by Karon Monaghan QC, Aileen McColgan, Charlotte Proudman, Funke Abimbola (by video) and Christl Hughes to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of quotas along with the alternatives.
Each speaker will be speaking briefly and we will then encourage attendees to put forward their views. Informal networking will follow.
Chatham House Rules will apply.
