Event description

Description

Nuts About Nature's first ever session at the Forestry Commission's Broaks Wood near Sible Hedingham. Led by Kate Curtis, a Level 3 Forest School Leader, first aider, DBS cleared and fully insured.

Clear those cobwebs from Christmas and welcome in the New Year in the fresh air. Come and play in the dens or make your own one ! See if you can spot birdlife from the comfort of the bird hide or be a detective and hunt for animal tracks in the mud at the ponds' edge. Search for wildlife using binoculars and magnifiers. Make a New Year's wish, jot it down or draw it on paper and roll the paper inside a piece of elder wood that you have cut with loppers and hollowed out. You can take it home, make it into a necklace or burn it in our magical camp fire ( with rainbow coloured flames to show the wishes will come true!) . Use a fire striker to create a spark as good as a New Year firework, and light your own tiny fairy fire. Decorate your very own nature collecting bag with mud stencilling and keep it handy for collecting things you find on your nature walks in the New Year for a nature table or treasure box.

Broaks Wood is the most varied wood in Essex and includes an unusual example of a Giant Redwood grove - the world's tallest growing tree species. The majority of the wood is designated as an Ancient Woodland Site and has probably existed since the end of the last ice-age 12,000 years ago. There are few sites in Essex to rival Broaks Wood for its variety of plants and animals. Records show 25 species of butterfly, 4 species of amphibians, 2 species of reptiles, 3 species of bat and many other mammal species including Fallow Deer. The site also has many species of wild flower. The main entrance is on the A1017 on the Gosfield to Sible Hedingham Road. There is parking on site, but limited hence why there are limited tickets available for this event.

Meet at the log circle adjacent to the car parking area. Parking is free. Why not go for a walk in the woods afterwards?

Ticket price £6.50 per child plus Eventbrite booking fee. Aimed at any age child. Adults and babies free. This a parent participative event - come and be a big kid ! Refundable up until 30 days before the event. If there are insufficient bookings then the event will need to be cancelled and your ticket/s willbe refunded by Nuts About Nature.
