Event description

Description

How does new and pervasive technology allow us to dislocate and break the frame of screen based practices?

Baby BEETA hosts a One Pot Lunch facilitated by Dr Alan Dunn, Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University where he co-runs the MA Art & Design course.

This session will unpick some of the challenges around screen based practice and what resources, networks and collaborations are needed to develop the practice.

We will explore how new and pervasive technologies allow us to dislocate and break the frame of screen based practices. Considering the move away from TV monitors, to the rise in the use of laptop screens and ever present mobile devices, and how this ultimately shifts and expands what screen based practices can and should be.

The event is free and includes a One Pot Lunch. In addition to an honesty bar with a selection of drinks

This event is organised as part of BABY BEETA, a 2 month intensive residency test space throughout June and July for developing digital art practices; examining tools, techniques and how it is possible to support artists to be leaders in innovation.

Throughout BABY BEETA we will run a programme of events, workshops and meals, with an open invitation to join local, national, and international collaborators for conversations on the role of artists in the future economy and the development of the city.

BEETA (Business, Environment, Engineering, Technology and Arts) is a collaboration between East Street Arts and Invisible Flock – a new digital space for artists in Leeds.

BEETA will interrogate the use of new and traditional techniques and technologies. It will create a space that will provide equipment, mentoring, guest lectures, workshops and one-to-one’s, all with a culture led focus. It will host a programme to encourage action and thinking around how these techniques can help new enterprise impact directly on the city and the global environment.
