Baby Fortnight - Brain Development in the Early Years

For: Universal*

*Universal = Everyone working or volunteering with children and those studying to work with children.

Live Session - Tuesday 30 September 2025 - 11.00am - 12.00pm

Description:

The first five years of childhood are more pivotal for development, future health and happiness that any other single moment in our lifetime but findings from a recent report suggest that only one in 4 people recognise the specific importance of the period from conception to the age 5.

This workshop comes as part of the ‘Best Start For Life’ priority for Leicestershire’s Children and Families Partnership Plan.

Session aims and objectives:

  • To explain what the 1001 critical days are and why they are so important
  • To explore how we can support babies brain development
  • To consider the factors which impact negatively on early brain development and how these can be addressed
  • To provide hints and tips how those working in EY settings can support parents to maximise their babies brain development
  • To provide information on available support for parents from CFWS and other partner agencies

Session outcomes:

  • EYFS staff have a good understanding of the 1001 days and can effectively communicate this to parents
  • EYFS staff can model behaviours and tools with parents to support brain development in babies
  • EYFS know how to refer into CFWS and what makes a good referral
