Baby Friendly Initiative – Leadership Training
Aim:To provide an overview of how the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards improve the health and wellbeing of babies, their mothers, parents/primary caregivers, and families.
This session is designed for managers, senior leads, and service decision-makers. It offers a comprehensive introduction to the Baby Friendly standards and their role in improving outcomes, embedding responsive care, and ensuring long-term sustainability across services.
Learning outcomes include:
- Defining the BFI standards and understanding their impact on practice
- Exploring the health and emotional wellbeing benefits of breastfeeding and human milk
- Recognising how infant feeding supports parent-infant relationships
- Understanding the role of the Infant Feeding Lead and how to support them
- Gaining awareness of the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes
- Reflecting on the UK’s wider infant feeding culture and its influence on practice
- Applying the Achieving Sustainability standards to support long-term implementation
- Highlighting the importance of strong leadership in protecting and upholding standards
