About this event
As part of Abigail's Footsteps commitment to providing training support to Midwives, we would like to offer a free one-day educational conference for Student Midwives which takes place in the City of London on 14th October during Baby Loss Awareness Week.
Our aim is to enhance the rich, educational curriculum that is already provided to student midwives, with a deep focus upon the emotionally challenging topic of baby loss. We have created a bespoke, student midwife focused programme of key speakers who have either experienced, or are currently working in the field of baby loss. Our aim is to support Student Midwives’ learning with speakers that can provide either their own unique, lived experience of baby loss as a parent, or the professionals that can provide their insights into working within this important area. The conference will also provide insights into the provision, purpose and use of equipment such as the Abi cooling cot, and an orientation into important, emotive areas such as memory making. There will also be two panel sessions during the day to allow the delegates to consolidate their thinking and, engage in discussion and ask any questions that they may have.

We believe that this is a unique opportunity to provide students with a wide breadth of knowledge in just one day, from what is a nationally, a very small but specialist field of experience. By helping students to understand baby loss at this early stage in their careers, we are certain it will not only equip them for their own practice in their placements (and later as qualified Midwives), but also vitally, the improve the experience of parents and families.
Places are limited, IF YOU BOOK A PLACE AND CAN NO LONGER ATTEND PLEASE CANCEL YOUR PLACE so it can be offered to someone on the waiting list. If you have any questions or for further information, please email faye.hill@abigailsfootsteps.co.uk
About Abigail's Footsteps:
We are a baby loss charity proudly celebrating our fifteenth anniversary this year. We provide support and counselling for bereaved parents and families as well as specialist bereavement training for midwives and healthcare professionals.
Since 2010, we have worked to improve the way bereaved parents are cared for by hospitals and to better educate midwives on how to care for grieving parents. Sadly, stillbirths and neonatal deaths occur daily, yet many hospitals are not equipped to deal with the parental care required, they may have inadequate facilities and their staff often receive little to no bereavement training.
By working with medical professionals to understand the issues and seek solutions our charity has helped many families. One of our greatest contributions as a charity has been the creation and funding of the Abi cooling cot which allows parents valuable time to spend with their baby before saying goodbye.
