Event description

Description

For a long time the guitar has been the instrument of choice by many Brazilians to express the different colours, tastes, feelings, and backgrounds of their multifaceted culture. Not surprisingly Brazil is home to some of the best guitar music ever written and to generations of virtuosos of the instrument, who helped boosting its possibilities to new technical and expressive layers. Fabricio Mattos pays homage to his home country in this intimate and colourful programme exclusively composed of Brazilian music, offering a glimpse of the textures and intricacies of his country’s culture and history.

In the first half Mattos performs a small part of the extremely prolific production for classical guitar in Brazil, with works composed by three of the country’s most representative composers from different generations: Dilermando Reis, Edino Krieger, and Heitor Villa-Lobos. The second half is a breathtaking 25-minute non-stop journey around Brazil through some of its most representative dance rhythms, from the less known ‘carimbó’ of the Amazon to internationally acclaimed ‘samba’ and ‘choro’ from Rio de Janeiro.
