Join this intergenerational workshop and find out how undomesticated cloth can be! We will look at fabric’s history as a radical tool for communication, and make back patches and flags that reflect ourselves, our communities, and our values using appliqué and other surface techniques.

To participate in this workshop you will need the following:

• One large back piece on which to compose your patch/flag. At least 14 x 14", Heavyweight is best. Can be solid or patterned.
• A mix of coordinating and contrasting fabrics to cut up and make your design. These can be small scraps or larger.
• Paper and pen/pencil for sketching
• Scissors
• Fabric or craft glue (though white school glue will work in a pinch)
• Optional: needle and thread, embroidery materials (hoop, needle and floss), sewing pins to hold things down
• Not necessary but nice to have: fabric markers for drawing on details, stamps & stamp pad to decorate or add texture, beads and trims to take it over the top, and your own ideas and materials to incorporate into your work

About Feral Fabric

Feral Fabric is the collaborative project of artists Paulina Berczynski and Amanda Walters. We bring forward ideas, conversations, workshops, and classes that combine our interests in textiles, contemporary art, and personal and cultural transformation. Feral Fabric started as an idea for a studio art class curriculum, and has since transformed into a series of textile-based workshops and projects that have taken place at Berkeley Art Museum, NIAD Art Center, and as pop up events at the Oakland Pride Parade and local labor marches.
