Event description
Join London Drawing Group for our FIRST post lockdown IRL Life Drawing classes! Fortnightly sessions at OruSpace Dulwich!

About this event

After a long absence LDG is excited to announce our return to in-person life drawing classes! We've teamed up with OruSpace in Dulwich to bring you six tutored fortnightly sessions, each with a different theme. (scroll down to see the themes)!

Sessions will be taught by our resident LDG Tutors Lily Holder and Luisa MacCormack, with a selection of amazing models to draw from. Oru will also be providing drinks to purchase after the class and we invite you to hang out and have a post drawing drink with us!

Our life drawing classes are about promoting the enjoyment of art making and are open to all levels. Each class will focus on a specific aspect of the human form, which we hope will help you create ever more compelling and considered work.

Materials and drawing boards will be provided but please feel free to bring sketchbooks or other materials if charcoal just doesn't do it for you!

PLEASE ARRIVE 15 MINS EARLY in order to allow time for setting up and grabbing a drink!

UPCOMING SESSIONS;

9th July

Back to Life

Our first class back in the life room will be taught by Luisa and modelled for by Lily! This session will be a fun class full of long and short poses and useful exercises, with Luisa on hand to offer technical guidance as we take our first steps back to life!

23rd July

Quick Poses and Gesture

This class, taught by Lily will focus on quick poses and gesture, with exercises focusing on helping you to capture the essence of the human form in simple lines. There will be lots of wonderful quick poses full of character and movement!

6th August

Chiaroscuro Light and Dark

This session will focus on the age old problem of light and shadow in drawing. Working in carefully curated lighting conditions, Lily will guide students through a series of exercises designed to offer techniques and tricks that will help you understand tonality in drawing.

20th August

The Modern Portrait

This session taught by Luisa will explore the basics of portraiture. We will begin by exploring the anatomy of the head, the structure of the face, and how tonality works within a portrait. Students will work both from the model and from each other!

3st September

Drawing Movement

This class will focus on techniques that can help us with the unique challenge of translating movement onto paper. Expect a life drawing class in reverse - starting with our longest poses of the session and gradually getting quicker and quicker before we are drawing from continuous movement from the model.

17th September

Drawing Hands and Feet

We all know that there are certain elements of Life-Drawing that are just plain tricky; we see lots of beautifully drawn bodies that end at the foot, or artfully crop off a hand because drawing extremities is just too daunting! This class will give you the opportunity to explore the gestural, expressive qualities of drawing hands and feet, as well as offering some really useful technical tips and advice to help you with the challenge.

Organiser LONDON DRAWING GROUP

Organiser of BACK TO LIFE DRAWING AT ORUSpace

The London Drawing Group is a collective of three contemporary artists currently practising in London. Although our practices are individually varied and diverse, we are brought together by our shared love of and passion for drawing, and our experiences of being taught by a huge range of practising artists at the Royal Drawing School Central.

Our aim as a collective is simply to get more people drawing, making, connecting and engaging with art. We genuinely believe that art is for everyone, and that sometimes the only thing keeping people from engaging in the playful, unknown and unpredictable process of art-making, is that it can seem intimidating. Through working to break down contextual barriers through innovative methods of teaching and creating, we hope to make drawing approachable to everyone.
