Event description

Description

This one day course provides theory and practice on the importance of toys and playful objects. The growing child slowly expands their multiplicity of feelings beyond their primary attachment figure to both other significant people and to special toys.

It is easy for small children to feel bombarded with toys of all shapes and sizes and to become confused about their function and purpose. It’s often been noted that many children prefer the box rather than the toy inside!

Children like the repetition of certain toys such as wheels that go round and round, much to the frustration of dad who would like create a railway track! Mum too wishes that the pre-occupation with pouring water from one container to another and back again would morph into basic cooking skills!

Everything comes in time, and young children, as well as teenagers who have missed out on early nurture, need to play through the early stages of playfulness before they are able to grasp cause and effect and multitasking.

We shall explore our own experience of toys and pleasure as well as disappointments. We will discover the important connection between attachment and playful objects, including some messy play!

There will be opportunities for discussion of practice as well as the opportunity for individual tutorials with Dr Sue Jennings. There will also be resources for purchase on the day including books and puppets.

Tickets include morning tea/coffee and croissants, and all resources.
