Who is this Course for?
Performers looking to gain dramatic combat training to add to their acting toolkit. People interested in becoming fight performers for stage and screen.
Course details
This is a 8-day course spread out over 4 weeks, focusing on the principles and techniques required for performing safe, believable and repeatable unarmed (hand to hand) and rapier combat for stage and screen.
We will be working on the use of unarmed and rapier dramatic combat techniques, working towards performing a choreographed fight with a partner, within the context of a scripted scene.
This fight performance will be viewed by a BADC examiner on the 26th of October and if successful you will receive an BADC Standard certification.
Please note that the course is active and requires sustained mental and physical engagement each day.
Course Cost
£300 (includes examination fee)

To make sure we are getting in as much time as possible together, it would be useful for everyone to arrive 15 minutes early (8:45) so as soon as 9 o’clock hits we can get going together.
Note: The BADC require a minimum number of training hours in order to be able to sit the end of course examination, so 100% attendance is required to achieve certification.
What to bring
- Water and snacks to keep up your energy: The days will be very active!
- A towel if you desire.
- Wear movement friendly clothes (no jeans!) and clean trainers, as we will be in a karate dojo and have been given permission to wear footwear so long as it is clean. This could mean bringing one pair of footwear for travel and one for training.
- Plenty of layers - we will warm up and cool down across the day, so it’s good to be prepared for all conditions.
Facilities
There are toilets on site as well as a tap to refill on water (be prepared to drink lots of water, it’s going to get sweaty!) There are also lots of shops like Tesco & Co-op nearby for food during lunch-breaks.
Travel/Parking
There is some limited parking near the venue. The nearest train station is Exeter St Thomas Station (a 6-minute walk away!)
When you arrive, there is a side door entrance. Just go through that door and up the stairs, to the common room and I shall assemble everyone there.
Inclusivity
