Description

To celebrate Scottish Badger Week, the Where's Wildlife in Ayrshire? Project is excited to be working in partnership with Scottish Badgers - Ayrshire Branch to run this event.

Badgers are part of the mustelid family and are unmistakable, stalky build with a grey back, short fluffy tail and the familiar black and white striped face. Unfortunatley these shy creatures are most likely to be seen dead by the roadside by the general public.

We would like to offer a small group the chance to see badger field signs first hand by helping us to survey to a well known main badger sett.

During our walk our WWA and Scottish Badgers leaders will provide an introduction into key issues such as badger ecology, field signs and the importance of recording sightings (of both animals and field signs). Importantly, our leaders will also discuss safety around badger setts and how to survey without causing disturbance as Badgers are legally protected. This event will provide a starting point for anyone interested in starting to record Badgers and to start to develop their survey skills.

No previous experience is necessary - just a keen interest in nature and an enjoyment of seeing and identifying the wildlife around you.

****** NUMBERS ARE VERY LIMITED FOR THIS EVENT ******
