Where:

- Day 2 at The Indie Sewing Room, Glasgow
This two-day workshop in Glasgow’s East End is a collaboration between Dastardly Line and Indie Sewing Room, combining textile innovation with hands-on industrial skill-building, where you’ll turn your fabric scraps into something bold, unique, and functional.
We designed this course as a natural evolution of The Dastardly Line x V&A textile conservation bags, and we’re excited to launch it as part of Glasgow’s Fair Fashion Festival, offered at a special introductory reduced rate.
The course is designed for home sewers who are already comfortable with domestic machines but are ready to take their skills to the next level.
On Sat 17th January with Dastardly Line, you can either bring along your own fabric scraps to combine with our studio’s collection, or simply work with ours. You’ll get hands-on time with a longarm quilting machine in a playful, tactile way - an ideal introduction to experimental longarm quilting.
On Sun 18th January with Indie Sewing Room, you’ll dive into industrial sewing, learning how to transform your quilted panel into a practical, one-of-a-kind bag. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll get confident using industrial machines and techniques as you stitch your bag from start to finish.
What to bring:
- A basic sewing kit (seam ripper, snips, fabric scissors, pins, hand sewing needles, chalk/pencil)
- (Optional) One standard carrier bag of light to mid weight fabric scraps: small scrappy pieces for collaging and larger pieces that may be used for lining
What’s provided:
- All materials and notions
- Snacks and hot drinks (please advise us of any dietary requirements in advance)
You’ll take home:
- A durable, unique bag made entirely from waste materials, including leather offcuts.
- New industrial sewing skills and confidence
- Inspiration to keep sewing sustainably
Tutors:
- Day 1: Founder of The Dastardly Line - Deborah. A master of collage combined with longarm quilting, with a passion for bringing new life to old fabric and reducing textile waste.
- Day 2: One of The Indie Sewing Room’s founder’s - Siobhan. With 15+ years of experience in garment and textiles manufacturing, an excellent guide to industrial techniques
