Event description

Description

Join us for an evening of drinks and canapés from London's best bakers, all to raise money for the #BakeForSyria campaign. We're celebrating World Baking Day and the upcoming #BakeForSyria cookbook by hosting this one-time-only pop-up.

Throughout the evening you will be able to mingle with the bakers themselves over their Syrian-inspired snacks and cakes. There will be music and a chance to find out more about the #BakeForSyria initiative, whilst eating some delicious food, curated by Lily Vanilli with Clerkenwell Boy and Serena Guen in collaboration with Unicef Next Generation London. Each guest will also leave with a gift bag full of treats.

The Bakers
On the evening, try Syrian-inspired canapés made by some of London's most exciting bakers: Lily Vanilli, The Good Egg, Pophams, 26 Grains, Dear Safia, Alexandra Dudley, Henrietta Inman, The Store Kitchen, Babelle, Arganic, Happy Endings and E5 yBakehouse.

#BakeForSyria Cookbook
On June 20, #CookForSyria is releasing a second cookbook #BakeForSyria, curated by renowned baker Lily Vanilli. The book brings together Syrian-inspired baking and dessert recipes from some of the world's best bakers and bakeries. All profits are going to Unicef's appeal for the children of Syria via Unicef Next Generation London.

About the Cause
#BakeForSyria is an off-shoot of #CookForSyria: it launched in 2017 in collaboration with Lily Vanilli and hosted two hugely successful charity bake-off events that year, taking over both Columbia Road and Old Spitalfields Market in collaboration with Unicef Next Generation London.

#CookForSyria is a global fundraising initiative that started as a simple supper club, where a group of foodie friends came together to celebrate Syrian cuisine and to encourage everyone, from top chefs to aspiring home cooks, to raise money for Unicef’s appeal for the children of Syria. Now in its second year, it is an international fundraising initiative with an aim to preserve and celebrate Syrian culture amid one of the largest humanitarian crises of our time and raise vital funds to help Unicef protect children affected by the crisis. The supper club has now become a global movement, raising more than £500,000.

Unicef UK’s Children of Syria appeal
After seven years of war, children and families in Syria still face violence, displacement, disease and starvation every day. More than 2.6 million children have been forced to flee Syria and are living in precarious conditions in surrounding countries. Children and families across Syria and in neighbouring countries are in desperate need of clean, safe water. Inside Syria, water supply is still being used as a weapon of war.

Unicef is one of the few humanitarian agencies working inside Syria, as well as supporting refugees in neighbouring countries with urgent humanitarian aid. Unicef’s teams are working around the clock to provide life-saving food, clean water, education services, health care and psychological support to children whose lives have been devastated by the prolonged conflict.
