Event description

Description

Freed of London takes visitors on a tour of its factory, where makers handcraft up to 40 pairs of custom-made pointe shoes a day for some of the world’s best ballet dancers, as well as theatrical and ballroom footwear.

Founded by Frederick Freed in the 1920's, Freed of London produce over 250,000 pairs of Classic Pointe Shoes per year. Every pair is still handmade using Frederick Freed’s own ‘turn-shoe’ method, by highly skilled pointe shoe Makers. Two-thirds of all Freed Classic Pointe Shoes are made to dancers’ specific requirements, and are worn by Prima Ballerinas worldwide, including Sylvie Guillem, Nina Ananiashvilli, Tamara Rojo, Leanne Benjamin, Evelyn Hart, Alexandra Ansanelli, Patricia Barker and Alexandra Ferri.

Freed of London also continues to make high quality shoes for ballet, jazz, tap, character, ballroom, Latin American, and social dancing, in addition to producing garments for dancers and students, including uniforms endorsed by the Royal Academy of Dance.
