Event Details

This session will be an interactive update on  HR models and the latest academic and theoretical HR practices. Tristan Callaghan, an experienced tutor for CIPD Level 7 Diploma in HRM, will outline latest thinking and utilise the knowledge and experience of those attending to add to the learning. This input will be ideal for those seeking CPD on current teaching as well as those students at all levels of CIPD courses. The group chair  vouches  for how passionate, fun and effective Tristan is as a lecturer. 

Tristan Callaghan MA, CIPD Professional Diploma in HRM, BA, PGCE, MCIPD, MCMI. Tristan has 18 years' senior experience in HR, management and equalities across a range of sectors, and 15 years' teaching experience on CIPD & CMI programmes.

Tristan is a professional in Human Resource Management/Strategic Management with a fundamental interest in meeting business strategic needs. He has significant experience of providing generic HR advice at all levels of an organisation. Tristan’s passion lies in educating and training staff where he has spent many years teaching HR at Hammersmith University as a Lecturer. Tristan has for many years taught CIPD Level 7 Diploma in HRM for Acacia Learning both in the UK and Europe.

For the last 2 years Tristan has been a director of Anthropi Learning Ltd  who are a team of experienced academics and professionals working in industry and delivering housing qualifications at HNC and Degree level at Colleges and Universities. 


Professional photography and video production may be taking place at the event, and these images may be used on future promotional materials for CIPD. Please note that by attending the event, you are giving your consent for your image to be used on any CIPD promotional materials.


Is there any parking?

Yes.  There is free parking after 6pm.

Are refreshments provided?

There will be some light refreshments.


Directions by road If approaching from London (A3) or the M25 (Junction 10), remain on A3 until you reach the exit signed to Cathedral and university. Do not take the exit signed to Guildford.

If approaching from the A322 or A323 from Bagshot or Aldershot, at the A3 roundabout take the exit signed to Portsmouth, and then turn off the A3 at the first exit (signed to Cathedral and the University).

If entering Guildford from Horsham (A281) or Godalming (A3100), leave the gyratory system at the exit marked Farnham (A31). After approximately 200 yards, at the mini-roundabout, take first turning into Guildford Park Road and continue along Madrid Road to The Chase for a mile. At the roundabout take the third exit, into the University entrance.

Surrey and North Hampshire Branch aims to Build connections between CIPD, our members and the community to enhance the capability and expertise of members and the profession.


We do this by providing a range of events and services to support the professional development of our 3300 members within the local and national business communities. Our events and services are designed to assist members to develop their HR skills and abilities and keep at the forefront of emerging HR practices as well as manage their continuous professional development. We welcome anyone interested in HR to attend a range of events covering everything from our standard Employment Law updates, through to specialist sessions aimed at consultants and help for members looking for a new role – and everything in between.


We cover an area which stretches from Dorking in the east around the M25 to Farnborough in the west. Through our groups in Farnborough & Camberley, Guildford, Woking, Walton & Weybridge and Dorking we provide members with friendly and direct access to our services at a local level. We are proud of our two Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which provide unique support to our members seeking to enhance their careers via the Career Connect SIG and to the many HR consultants in the area though the dedicated Consultant SIG.
