The Bristol Cable & Bristol Set In Print present a evening through the History of Print Press. The event will take place as follows:
Documentary screening: 'Banging out: Fleet Street Remembered'
The documentary Banging out puts former print workers at the forefront of telling the history of a key period in the decline of the press industry in the 1980s.
"There used to be a tradition in Fleet Street newspapers called "banging out". As a retired employee wandered towards his rendezvous with a carriage clock, the printers serenaded him by whacking the metal benches with their hammers, beating out a ceremonial slow-march to mark his departure." Jim White
Panel discussion: former print worker, union representatives, and journalists will be sharing their experience of the evolution of print press
& Letterpress Workshop visit: The Letterpress Collective will be opening their doors of the workshop and guide us through their work.
