Event Details

In this session we will take a more in depth look at your documentation plans, reviewing your actions for the next 12 months:

  • How you came up with these actions/priorities
  • Is this realistic?
  • How you might achieve these actions
  • Timeframes and resources
  • Monitoring progress
  • Barriers and risks

There will also be an opportunity to troubleshoot your collections management and documentation issues with other participants, using your own policies and procedures.

This workshop is part of the 'Banish the Backlogs' programme for 2020-21. Since 2017 Museum Development North West and Collections Trust have been working together to run the ‘Banish the Backlogs’ programme to help museums improve procedures and develop realistic plans to improve their documentation. Led by Sarah Brown, Outreach Officer at Collections Trust, these workshops are open to staff and volunteers from museums in the North West which are Accredited or formally working towards Accreditation.

Museum Development North West

The Manchester Partnership and the Cumbria Museums Consortium are delivering a programme of Museum Development for North West Museums up to March 2022.

With the support of public funding from ACE all Museum Development North West workshops are free. Please help us keep them that way.

If you have signed up to one of our events, but are no longer able to attend, we require you to inform us at least 48 hours before the scheduled event so that we can offer your place to someone on the waiting list.

Effective from 1st April 2018, there will be a £50 cancellation fee per ticket charged to organisations that have failed to cancel within 48 hours of the scheduled event. This fee will be implemented at the discretion of MDNW, depending on individual circumstances.

When booking a place, please can you ensure you name the organisation you work for and add the contact details of your line manager. MDNW funding stipulates that priority is to be given to those working and volunteering in non-national and non-NPO accredited museums or those officially working towards accreditation. If you work in a national museum, an NPO, a non-accredited museum or outside of the museum sector, your place may be reallocated if there is a waiting list of delegates from priority museums. MDNW will inform you by email before cancelling your ticket.

Visit the Arts Council website for regular updates and opportunities for regional museums:

In the interests of being Green we encourage:

- the use of car sharing and public transportation to participants in our events

- reductions in printing and photocopying by making materials available digitally

- ordering our catering responsibly and from local suppliers where possible

Please note we will film and take digital images at our events, if you object to your likeness being recorded, please notify an event organiser prior to the event.  We will use film and images either online or in print to support the Museum Development Programme in the North West.
