Banter, racism & acculturation: intercultural dynamics in diverse sports teams

How do players communicate, how do incoming players adjust to diverse team environments, and what are the implications for team cohesion?

Find out from our panel of speakers:

  • Solvejg Wolfers and Daniel Clayton, Warwick University PhD candidates, will present their academic research on multicultural sports teams
  • Elizabeth Ryan, NLP Master Practitioner and award-winning coach at Ice Cool Confidence
  • Roisin Wood, CEO of Kick It Out and Elizabeth Ryan, Coach at Ice Cool Confidence will represent a practitioner's perspective

About the panellists

Solvejg Wolfers is a PhD Candidate at the University of Warwick in Coventry, UK. Her main areas of interest are sports discourse, the multiple uses and functions of humour, and the discursive processes involved in identity construction. She is also member of the Sports Culture and Communication Research Group.

Daniel Clayton is a PhD candidate at the University of Warwick. His research interests include: acculturation in sport; team cohesion and cultural identity. He is also member of the Sports Culture and Communication Research Group.

Elizabeth Ryan is an NLP Master Practitioner and award-winning coach at Ice Cool Confidence. She is currently organising blt.ly/CATCE - a seminar for sports coaches and parents.

Roisin Wood, CEO of Kick It Out, is a native of County Down in Northern Ireland, has also held positions as the Partnership Manager at the London Borough of Redbridge Council and the Community Engagement Manager in the Metropolitan Police Service, and has experience in community development within divided communites after working for the Community Foundation in Northern Ireland.
