Event Details

Bar modelling is a powerful heuristic for problem solving and helps children to visualise complex problems supporting them to understand and tackle multi step problems. Through this active and engaging one-day workshop, you will explore how bar modelling draws on the concrete, pictorial approach and how you can use this powerful and versatile strategy to support deep mathematical conceptual understanding in your classroom.

Who can apply?

For primary school class teachers who want to further enhance mathematical teaching and learning in their classroom through the use of bar modelling.

What’s involved?

Bar modelling builds on a concrete pictorial abstract approach and you will experience how to use this powerful, versatile and accessible strategy to support deep conceptual understanding.  We will work together to understand how to introduce bar modelling to young children supporting early mathematical thinking, leading to using bar modelling to support older children in Key Stage 2 and beyond.  We will have a fun and interactive session where we will consider what bar modelling looks like and feels like whilst exploring our own mathematical thinking, conceptual and pedagogical understanding.
