Please note that this form is to book the conference only. Accommodation at St Hilda's at preferential rates and limited on-site parking (first come, first served) will be available. Please see the covering email for how to arrange this directly with the college.

FRIDAY 3rd September

We offer an optional afternoon tour of the Pitt-Rivers Museum in Oxford for those arriving early.

Cost of £25 includes tea at St Hilda’s and a two-course esupper, followed by a pre-conference quiz in the SCR, with drinks available

SATURDAY 4th September

DAYTIME

The day begins mid-morning with coffee and registration, followed by the Annual General Meeting.

Our three speaker sessions are:

● Paul Richards: “A novelist among anthropologists: Barbara Pym and the International African Institute”

● Mayuko Akiyami: “Barbara Pym’s world and modern Japan”

● Lucia Costanzo: "In the footsteps of the St Basil's trip to Rome"

Cost includes lunch at St Hilda’s and refreshments during the break.

Later in the afternoon, you are invited to attend a celebration of the new biography, “The Adventures of Miss Barbara Pym” by Paula Byrne, hosted by Sioned Wiliam.

Copies of the book will be available for sale or you are welcome to bring it your own copy for Paula to sign.

SATURDAY EVENING

Drinks Reception and the Annual Dinner in the Pavilion Building, followed by our fabulous fund-raising “Pymbola”

SUNDAY 1st SEPTEMBER

Informal activities until coffee time, followed by our speaker sessions.

● “The Barbara Pym Society in North America” : Kathy Ackley

● “Lessons from Across the Channel: What the French Can Teach Us About Barbara Pym” : Beverly Bell

The morning ends with a summing up of the conference and the opportunity to discuss it with the speakers

Afternoon session: Dramatised readings arranged by Yvonne Cocking. Please let us know if you are interested in taking part!

Cost includes lunch at St Hilda’s, morning coffee, and tea at the end of the afternoon (approx 3.30pm)

Any questions about the conference should be addressed to chair@barbara-pym.org. Cancellations will only be accepted until the last day of booking: Monday 23 August 2021. Except in the case of the event being cancelled by St Hilda's, refunds will be subject to the deduction of an administrative charge. After 23 August, any individual cancellations caused by emergencies will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
