About this event

Barcarolle Choir, a choir of international women based in South Kensington, and its Music Director, Sam Evans, are delighted to announce their forthcoming performance in the beautiful gardens of Trumpeters House, built on the former site of Richmond Palace.

The choir will perform musical pieces combining a wide range of musical genres and will be accompanied by the talented Oliver Lallemant at the piano.

The performance will be followed by a Tea served on the great lawn and people will be more than welcome to join the choir in some free dancing.

Built in the 15th century the Richmond Palace was destroyed by fire in 1499. During the following centuries many improvements and renovations were undertaken. At the beginning of the 18th century no one showed any interest in the building and that is when it was disposed of to private residents.

The successions of leases had brought some new renovations and extensions to the site, in particular the additions of the side wings and the grand portico. During the Second World War the house was briefly used by the American Red Cross as a Day Club but the house suffered bomb damage and was sold after the war. In 1951 it was converted into four apartments and a Lodge.

This fundraising event is organised in support of the Princess Alice Hospice based in Esher a local hospice caring for patients and families through illness and bereavement for as long as they need us.

Princess Alice Hospice has provided free, high-quality, specialist end of life care to tens of thousands of people across a large part of Surrey, south west London and Middlesex for more than 35 years. Today Hospice nurses, doctors and other specialist staff are looking after more than 900 people at any one time. The Hospice's mission is to reach out to even more people by delivering outstanding care to those who need it. To enable this the Hospice must rely on the commitment and support of the local community who help to raise the £10.1 million needed each year to provide these vital services. With limited NHS funding provided by CCGs, which represents about 24% of expenditure on charitable activities, the balance is raised through legacies, fundraising, dedicated shop units and investments.

Princess Alice Hospice is a Registered Charity, Number 1010930
