Barden Bridge Food Foraging Experience
Sun 11 June 2017, 11:00 – 15:00 BST
Barden Bridge is at the north end of the Bolton Abbey estate (near Skipton). This foraging session will take us through a rich limestone habitat and along the course of the River Wharfe. By early summer the river banks will be awash with healthy green growth and a colourful splash of wild flowers. The array of interesting and delicious edibles to found in this site is startling. Edible leaves, shoots, stalks, flowers, buds, and underground tubers will feature. And if conditions are good we may also be gifted with wild mushrooms. For those intrepid foragers willing to risk a soaking by the river, there could well be crayfish on the menu. The non-native, invasive Signal Crayfish can be found fairly easily if the river level is not too high.
(Note: this session particularly suits groups as car parking spaces are usually limited)
