Barema NHS eProcurement and GS1 Workshop
Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM
Delivered in partnership with GS1
In May 2014, the Department of Health published the NHS eProcurement strategy. This strategy, following on from 2013's Better Procurement, Better Value, Better Care: Procurement Development Programme, describes in more detail how the GS1 coding and PEPPOL standards will enable transparency and efficiency in NHS procurement, and help support and improve patient safety.
GS1 has also been accredited by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an issuing agency for Unique Device Identification (UDI). GS1's standards for identification and barcoding conform to all FDA requirements including:
- Product identification at each level of the packaging hierarchy
- The barcode symbols to use
- The product data to be included in barcodes
- The data that must be stored within the Global UDI Database (GUDID) specified by the US FDA
Moreover the hotly anticipated revised European Medical Devices Directive sets out use of UDI in the medical devices market.
This workshop will set out where these requirements are complementary, and what suppliers need to do in order to meet the requirements.
The event will run from 9.30 – 1.00 pm, followed by lunch.
Places are limited, and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Further meeting(s) may be arranged if there is sufficient demand.
Please note that cancellation fewer than 7 days (on or after 10th September 2015) before the workshop is non-refundable.

Neil Gray – Solution Consultant, GS1 UK
I’m a senior consultant and project manager, specialising in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and master data management. I support our members in managing their product data – making it simpler to capture and share accurate product information throughout their supply chains.
I have over 12 years’ experience working with GS1 standards. This has included running a hosted data transformation service with Peregrine Systems, one of the world’s largest providers of e-commerce software. Before that, I managed the Texas Instruments European EDI programme for many years, helping businesses to introduce a standardised format for sharing electronic product data.
Ben Clarke – Training and Education Manager, GS1 UK
AS the Training and Education Manager, it’s my job to help our members understand GS1 service – to ensure they get our standards right first time. But if anything does go wrong, don’t worry – we’ll be there to guide you through industry best practice and put it right.
Having worked at GS1 UK for 10 years, I’ve designed and delivered hundreds of courses to thousands of businesses – large and small- across diverse industry sectors. One of my favourite achievements is that people have found the training engaging, effective, and enjoyable – even fun!
If you work in a company that does is not a member of Barema, you are welcome to attend the workshop. Please reserve your place by registering as a non-member.
