Child Sexual Exploitation Guidance and Training Pack Train the Trainers Course

About this Event

Barnardo's Scotland:

Child Sexual Exploitation Guidance and Training Pack

Train the Trainers Course - Participant Criteria and information

Background

In 2014, Barnardo’s, in partnership with the West of Scotland CPC’s Consortium, published a practitioner’s resource pack for workers dealing with Child Sexual Exploitation.

For the Train the Trainers course, a training resource (including all access to training materials and resources) was developed for delivery in 2014 and was cascaded to a number of CPC representatives. This course has subsequently been updated in 2017 and again in 2019.

Upon completion of this training the attendees will then be able to cascade and train within their own areas/localities.

The course content for the Train the Trainers course

The training pack aims to raise awareness of how children and young people become involved in Child Sexual Exploitation, the impact of their involvement and how practitioners can respond to, protect and support children and young people affected by sexual exploitation.

This training day is aimed at staff who will deliver the pack in their local area.

It will provide participants with an opportunity to

• run through the course structure and content

• experience the training exercises

• clarify the purpose of the content from a trainer’s role.

• observe a range of delivery methods.

• develop their understanding of child sexual exploitation

The training pack is delivered as a one day training session composed of distinct units which meet a set of learning outcomes. The pack is flexible and can also be delivered as units over a number of sessions.

Who should attend?

It is recommended that participants meet the criteria below in order to be able to fully benefit from the day and feel confident to cascade the training.

• Have at least 2 years experience of supporting young people who are vulnerable to child sexual exploitation.

Or

• Are an experienced learning and development practitioner.

And are able to

Appendix C continued

• Facilitate group discussion and help people learn and reflect.

• Keep groups on task and know whether learning has taken place.

• Reflect critically on your understanding of CSE, and create opportunities for professional learning

Pre-course work and preparation

All participants are expected to be fully conversant with the practitioner’s guidance in relation to Child Sexual Exploitation. This can be accessed via your CPC website or by downloading from CELSIS’s (previously on WithScotland) website. Barnardo’s can also forward this on to the participants.

There is an expectation that all participants will have had approval from their line manager to attend this course as well as facilitate on-going training on behalf of their CPC.

What happens after the course?

Participants will be sent an email with a link to the Barnardo’s Scotland website where they can register their commitment to deliver the training and download PDF versions of the materials. Materials will not be released until confirmation of line manager approval (to cascade these materials) is received.

It is the responsibility of participants to ensure that all materials are accessible to them for all venues.
