Barnet Council Housing and Homelessness Strategy Public Roadshow
Event Information
Description
Barnet Council is currently consulting on its Housing and Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategies. Both strategies set out our vision and plans for housing and homelessness over the next five years. The strategies cover a range of themes which provide a framework and action plan to address housing and homelessness related issues in Barnet.
The main themes of the Housing Strategy are:
1. Improving standards in the private rented sector
2. Delivering more homes that people can afford
3. Safe and secure homes
4. Promoting independence
5. Tackling homelessness and rough sleeping
The main themes of the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy are:
1. Preventing homelessness
2. Reducing the number of households in temporary accommodation and securing sufficient accommodation for those at risk or who are homeless
3. Establishing effective partnerships, working arrangements and support to those who are or used to be homeless, to improve their resilience and reduce the risk of them becoming homeless again
4. Supporting rough sleepers to address their housing and other needs
We are keen to hear the views of residents, particularly those in the private rented sector, as the event will focus on looking at ways to improve private renting in Barnet alongside seeking views on the draft strategies.
The consultation period will run for 3 months from the 5th November 2018 to the 4th February 2019, consisting an online questionnaire for the housing strategy and one for the homelessness strategy. This is alongside this public roadshow to share your views with Councillor Rozenberg and Councillor Ryde, Chair and Vice Chair of the Housing Committee, which is taking place at Colindale Library on the 21st November at 6.30pm.
If you would like to comment on the proposed strategy and the action plan please complete the survey or come to the event. If you would prefer a hard copy of the survey in the post please contact Joshua.Henry@Barnet.gov.uk or call 020 8359 7043.
