Barrett's Privateers
Overview
We welcome back the amazing Barrett's Privateers
Join us for what promises to be an amazing evening of sea shanties and songs from our very own Tamar based mixed Acapella group - Barrett's Privateers. Many of the songs explore our rich local heritage as well as the wider West Country traditions.
Since forming in 2019, the group have taken the crowds by storm at many large venues and festivals including the prestigious Falmouth Sea Shanty and Carnglaze caverns.
They were honoured to represent Cornwall at the Festival Interceltique de L’orient in Brittany in 2022 and have performed on the main stage at the highly acclaimed Rock Oyster festival.
Whilst delivering accomplished and professional performances with their rich broad harmonies, the group still remain firmly rooted in the Cornish tradition of pub and public singing, known to many as ‘the shout’. Barrett’s Privateers are frequently to be found in many of our local pubs.
St Sampson's are very gratefull that the group are once again generously giving freely of their time in support of St Sampsons Unlocked project, an ambitious project to improve and restore South Hill church. To fix the roof and ceiling, create a warm meeting space and put in a permanent toilet and kitchen.
Tickets are available at no charge, but donations, cash or card, in lieu of tickets on the night. Suggested £14.
Why donations rather than a fixed ticket price? The group and organisers all give freely of their time and many of you may be aware how much tickets might cost for these sort of events. In the same spirit of giving, we know these events are generously supported by you and it allows us to also welcome those who might otherwise not be able to afford the full price of these wonderful community performances. So please come along and give what you can for what promises to be a truly wonderful evening.
There will be a licensed bar, with pasties. Soft drinks and beer and cider.
The venue provides a wonderful setting, perfect for enjoying a night of entertainment with friends and family.
