In this hands-on DIY workshop for women, you will learn how to confidently use a drill for common household tasks like hanging shelves, curtain rails, blinds, and picture frames — plus plenty of practical skills you can apply to other DIY jobs.
In a relaxed and supportive setting, and in the company of three like-minded women, you’ll get familiar with tools, materials and wall types, so you can make informed choices and avoid common pitfalls.
The workshop will cover:
- how to understand your combi drill and its different functions (drill / hammer / screwdriver)
- how to drill safely and effectively into both masonry and hollow walls (like plasterboard)
- which drill bits to use for different jobs — and how to know which one you need
- which wall plugs and screws work best for different types of walls
- how to recognise different screw heads and how to avoid stripping them
- what to do if a hole you drilled is too big or has blown
Each participant will have the opportunity to practice her drill skills on a mock-up wall using a hammer drill, and there will be time for any DIY questions you may have.
The workshop will last about 2 hours and take place in Whalley Range.
You will receive a handout to take home, which you can continue to use as reference.
Please note: While this workshop does not include hands-on experience of how to drill into tiles, this will be covered in the handout.
