About this event

These are simple jobs that with a little skill and confidence you can do yourself. You only need to know some basic rules and know how to check your work so you can safely complete the task. There are so many jobs around the house from fixing electrical equipment, replacing fuses and checking if something is blown. Seeing if there is actually voltage at a socket using a plug in tester.

How about adding a celling light to your room replacing that old 100W bulb with a new energy saving LED fixture? Homeowners are always trying to improve their home and there are plenty of new switches, LED lights etc. that you can by from the DIY store but they are not always as straight forward to connect.

There are some electrical jobs that you are allowed to do yourself in the home that are perfectly legal to do but any major works should always be left to the professionals.

In the class you will learn what the electrical equipment in your house does and why it's important and how to do some basic tasks. You will also learn about low voltage equipment, AC, DC and different cables a full list of topics covered are listed below.

Our Basic Electrical Course here at the Great British Woodshop will give you skills you need in a practical hands on class where you get to see how things work and ask all the questions you can think of.

Organiser The Great British Woodshop

Organiser of Basic Electrical Course - Part 1, 3 Hour Course

"The Great British Woodshop" is the location of the Discovery channel TV Series of the same name.

Students of all abilities are given a warm welcome at our large, fully tooled workshop in West Byfleet.

You can learn a variety of different skills with the Great British Woodshop, depending on your interests.  Courses include Woodwork, DIY, Special Projects, Spray Painting, Upcycling and Upholstery and we also hold a popular Saturday club for 11-16 year olds.

The Great British Woodshop run daytime, evening and Weekend courses to fit in with busy lifestyles.  Class sizes are deliberately kept small for the personal experience and can be tailored to the specific needs of those attending on any given day.

Courses are run by woodworking craftsman and television presenter David Free. DRB certified, David has been practising woodwork for 40 years and has been teaching all ages for 20 of those.   David is passionate about sharing his woodwork and DIY knowledge with others.

Now that DIY Superstores are full of woodworking machinery at very affordable prices, there's never been a better time to build a home workshop and have fun making some of your own furniture, renovate your kitchen or learn how to spray paint to a high quality finish. This not only fulfils practical needs but it also gives you a great sense of achievement.

Our courses give you basic knowledge for the complete beginner or take your existing skills to the next level. We look forward to you joining us for a really fun event and in the mean time why not check "YouTube" to see some of the episodes from the TV series.
