About this event
In this half day online workshop, we will explore how Lego® (or other model making materials) may be used in teaching situations with adults.
We will introduce briefly the concept of Lego® Serious Play® (LSP) and carry out some exercises based upon it, from warm-ups to some more involved builds . We'll talk about the equipment you need to take this approach and where you might source it from. It isn't an in-depth, "everything you ever need to know" workshop, or a set of examples for a specific setting - it's a quick introduction to some practical basics of the approach.
By the end of the day, attendees should have an appreciation of how model making, particularly with Lego, may be used in teaching, some standard warm-ups and other exercises that might be used, plus some key options to source Lego® to use in their teaching or support sessions. They will also have had a chance to reflect on how LSP and similar approaches may be applied to their own settings.
All attendees will receive a pack of Lego® in advance to use during the training, so please make sure that the address on the booking is where you'd like the Lego sending to. Participants must be willing and able to share their cameras during the workshop as an integral part of it will be to share their Lego builds with other participants.
Spaces are limited due to the intensely hands-on nature of this event. Bookings also subject to minimum numbers attending. If too few bookings are received, the event may be cancelled and full refunds made. We will need your address details as part of the booking process - this is purely to allow us to post a pack of materials out to you, so please use whatever address you want these sending to!
Attendees outside the UK are welcome to attend, but we'll close these tickets earlier than UK bookings to allow enough time to post out the Lego! The price will also be slightly higher to allow for international postage (anywhere in the world except the USA thanks to random and unpredictable tariffs).
We'll use an online meeting platform, Zoom, to host the training - links will be sent out to registered attendees when bookings close.
Note - LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO Group of companies which does not sponsor, authorize or endorse this workshop.
Background to the workshop - I've run workshops on using Lego in libraries and in teaching before, but people asked for something more like a basic introduction, covering where to get the Lego from, the basic ideas behind it all, and some basic warm-ups and and exercises to have a go at. So not too much detail, but more like a practical taster that gave a flavour of how you might get started with it. This is that workshop!
