Who is this course is for?

  • People with health and safety responsibilities in voluntary sector organisations.

  • Staff and volunteers of community groups.

  • Recent arrivals and migrant workers who want to know about their rights.

Course aim:

  • The course aims to equip learners with the basic knowledge necessary to take on health and safety responsibilities and play a part in making workplaces safer.

  • Participants will learn who is responsible for health & safety at work and for creating a safe working environment.

  • Learners will have improved awareness of their rights and how to enforce those rights.

The session will cover:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act

  • The Management of Health and safety at Work Regulations

  • COSHH – Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

  • Manual Handling Regulations

  • Doing a risk assessment


Learning outcomes:

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Describe the main health and safety legislation

  • Carry out a risk assessment

  • Identify key responsibilities for making workplaces healthy and safe

  • Apply their improved knowledge of the right to work safely in their job

  • Take on health and safety responsibilities for a community group
