Overview

Training for professionals working in health, social care and community organisations that may encounter people using alcohol and drugs.

This one-day training session is deilivered by Change Grow Live Norfolk in partnership with Norfolk County Council.

Location: The Norman Centre, Bignold Road, Norwich, NR3 2QZ (Appleyard/Bignold Road)

Arrival: 9:30AM
Finish: 3PM

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided on arrival and available throughout the day. Unfortunately, as this is a free session, we are unable to provide lunch. Kindly make your own arrangements. There is a good coffee shop on site or plenty of food outlets in the nearby area.

If you are coming by car, there is parking available. If using public transport, the nearest railway station is Norwich, and the venue is a 10 minute walk.

Who is Change Grow Live (CGL)?

  • The history of drug and alcohol services in Norfolk and what is available today

What does CGL do?

  • Supporting people affected by alcohol and drugs, the various pathways and treatments available
  • How to make a referral


A harm minimisation approach to public health

Needle Exchange and Blood Borne Virus Testing

  • Understand the principles of harm minimisation and its role in public health
  • Learn the history, goals, and functions of needle exchange programs (NEPs)
  • Understand the evidence and outcomes of NEPs
  • Understand the legal, ethical, and societal implications of NEPs
  • Gain skills to advocate for and educate others about harm reduction strategies


Understanding Blood Borne Viruses, testing and treatment

What is a Blood Borne Virus?

  • The three BBV’s that CGL test for and their unique differences.
  • The history of hep C treatment since 2014.
  • The WHO’s aim to irradicate Hep C.
  • Micro elimination.

Naloxone

  • What is Naloxone?
  • How to prevent an overdose.
  • Signs of overdose/how to recognize an overdose.
  • How to check responsiveness: the 6-point checklist for overdose

    Nitazenes
  • Nitazenes are a class of synthetic opioids with high potency. This session will equip you with the tools and knowledge to minimise the harms associated with the use of Nitazenes
  • Understand what Nitazenes are, their potency, and how they differ from other opioids
  • Recognise the risks and public health challenges associated with Nitazenes
  • Learn evidence-based harm reduction strategies specific to Nitazene use
  • Be able to provide appropriate overdose prevention and response measures
  • Understand how to educate communities and advocate for harm reduction policies

Booking your space confirms you have approved this with your line manager.

We require confirmation of attendance a week before the event. We will be in touch when it's time to confirm.

We do not accept bulk bookings or booking on someone elses behalf. If you think someone on your team would like to attend, please send them the link so they can book their own place in their own name.

If you book a place and do not attend, your organisation will be charged a fee of £100

Very late cancellations will also be charged a fee of £100.

If you do have to cancel, please do so in good time by emailing katie.docwra@cgl.org.uk and cancel your place via Eventbrite as soon as possible so that others may have the opportunity to attend.

Photos may be taken at the event and a list of all the professional attendees, their organisations and email addresses may be emailed to all after the event for their own ‘useful contact sheet’.
