Basics of Orthodontic Assessment for Dental Hygiene and Therapists:

AIMS

  1. To gain greater knowledge and confidence in the basis of orthodontic assessment, considering different oral development stages
  2. Identify when input from a Dentist will be needed to then allow for appropriate onward orthodontic referral

OBJECTIVES

  1. Revision on basic orthodontic terminology
  2. Assessment of the different indications for referral in the primary, mixed and permanent dentitions
  3. Greater confidence and understanding of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need IOTN


X-Ray Interpretation and Report Writing for Dental Hygiene and Therapists:

AIMS

  1. To gain greater knowledge and confidence in caries diagnosis from intra-oral and extra-oral dental films
  2. To understand the scope of treatment provided by a Dental Therapist and how integration of treatment with the full dental team is managed

OBJECTIVES

  1. Explore the caries classification system, and how this can be used to report on x-rays and diagnose caries
  2. Review the different dental films available, and justification for these
  3. Gain confidence in radiographic report writing
