Basics of Orthodontic Assessment for Dental Hygiene and Therapists:
AIMS
- To gain greater knowledge and confidence in the basis of orthodontic assessment, considering different oral development stages
- Identify when input from a Dentist will be needed to then allow for appropriate onward orthodontic referral
OBJECTIVES
- Revision on basic orthodontic terminology
- Assessment of the different indications for referral in the primary, mixed and permanent dentitions
- Greater confidence and understanding of the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need IOTN
X-Ray Interpretation and Report Writing for Dental Hygiene and Therapists:
AIMS
- To gain greater knowledge and confidence in caries diagnosis from intra-oral and extra-oral dental films
- To understand the scope of treatment provided by a Dental Therapist and how integration of treatment with the full dental team is managed
OBJECTIVES
- Explore the caries classification system, and how this can be used to report on x-rays and diagnose caries
- Review the different dental films available, and justification for these
- Gain confidence in radiographic report writing
