Basil Spence Churches Tour -12-1pm St. Catherine of Siena

A tour of Grade II St. Catherine of Siena and Grade II St. Paul's Church designed by Sir Basil Spence.
The tour will be conducted by Russell Light of Sheffield School of Architecture.
A fantastic opportunity to see and tour two of Sir Basil Spence churches in Sheffield both opened in 1959. Starting with Grade II listed St. Catherine of Siena, "A strongly sculptural design with a powerful presence" (http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-466435-church-of-st-catherine-of-siena-#.WDYQ21ydK00), followed by St. Paul's Church, listed Grade II in 2000 due to "an outstandingly transparent design, this is Spences finest Parish Church" (http://www.heritageinspired.org.uk/filedownload/(WEB)%20Sheffield%20St%20Paul%20(Wordsworth%20Ave).pdf).

12-1pm | St. Catherine of Siena, Hastillar Road S, S13 8LW
1pm-2pm Travel to second church (8 miles, approx. 35 minutes) including buying lunch (suggested stop: St. Catherine of Siena Coffee Shop which is open until 1pm or shops near St. Pauls Church S5 9ND)
2pm-3pm - St. Paul's Church, Wordsworth Avenue, S5 9JH
