Event description

Description

Students and staff from Graphic Design in the School of Visual Communication, BCU Faculty of Arts Design and Media, have designed and produced a set of posters celebrating the life and work of John Baskerville as an entrepreneur, designer, and craftsman. An eighteenth-century man of Birmingham, Baskerville had a significant influence on the development of typography and book design. The exhibition has been staged to coincide with the publication of John Baskerville: art and industry of the Enlightenment, edited by Caroline Archer-Parré and Malcolm Dick, the first scholarly appraisal of Baskerville’s work for more than forty years.

Alongside the display of posters will be an exhibition of material from the original designs of David Patten, creator of the sculptural tribute which stands between the Hall of Memory and Baskerville House.
