PREREQUISITES
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of professional experience as a singer/performer. Think about it if you don't have much singing performance experience it will be hard to convince someone that you know enough to help them become a singer.
  • Music theory qualifications or Grade 5 minimum knowledge recommended. Knowledge is power.
  • Keyboard skills also recommended but not compulsory.  It is highly recommended you consider piano lessons if you have no keyboard experience. Being able to play and control scales, plonk out a melody or a set of chords goes a long way in this game. We do cover basic scale building and piano fingering in the course.
Please note: Once you have booked your place, you will be asked a series of questions about your experience & qualifications to give us an idea of your background. Your trainer may contact you to discuss the course in more detail and to find out more about you. If you wish to talk to someone before booking please email a info@basttraining.com to request a call.

TESTIMONIALS

I can’t recommend this BAST course enough.  I you’re seriously thinking of becoming a singing teacher/vocal coach or even if you already are but want to improve then this is the course for you.  It begins with basic anatomy and goes right through to in-depth voice technique, style and piano skills.  Not only that, it assists in marketing and strategy in becoming a professional singing teacher.  A priceless aid taught by elite industry professionals in my opinion!

Duncan Heather

This singing teaching course is absolutely amazing and I have learnt so much from it. My teaching skills have improved and I generally feel better equipped to teach my students well.

Collena Masuku

This course couldn't have been anymore useful. I had had no previous teaching experience and this course gave me the confidence to go out and get a job teaching. The techniques delivered were brilliant and all of my students love the method of teaching, which I have BAST to thank for! Would highly recommend it to anyone!

Ian Davidson

Ian Davidson is a highly sought after Vocal Coach and Singing Teacher with over 12 years’ worth of experience of teaching and working in the Higher Education and Music Industry sectors of the UK.

Ian was fortunate to begin his career lecturing in vocals at the world-renowned Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, or LIPA, which was founded by Sir Paul McCartney.  Ian spent 10 years there in the music department teaching one-to-one voice lessons, directing the a cappella and gospel choirs and also teaching singing for actors, singing for dancers and music theory.  During his time at LIPA he has had the privilege of teaching some great students who have gone to achieve success within the industry such as Dan Croll, Ady Suleiman, Frances, and Jessica Staveley-Taylor from The Staves.

Ian then spent a year helping to establish a new BA in Musical Theatre at the Institute of the Arts Barcelona, or IAB, based in Sitges in Catalunya, Spain.  He is now back in Liverpool, lecturing part-time at LIPA and a new charity school called Rare Studios, which provides high quality performing arts training for under privileged teenagers from the Merseyside area.

Ian is also the founder and co-director of Balance Vocal Studio (www.balanceyourvoice.com), also based in Liverpool, and splits his time between lecturing and teaching private clients.  Ian has experience leading workshops and teaching in other countries, such as Switzerland, Malta and the USA, and also teaches clients over Skype and FaceTime.

Ian has an MA in Music from the University of Salford, and a BA in Performing Arts Music from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, along with a Gospel Entertainment and Music Award and a Gold Disc for his contribution to the 2012 UK Christmas No.1 Single “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” for which he arranged and directed the backing vocals and choir.

Ian is a founding member of the Vocology in Practice Global Teacher Network and is presently serving as the Education Director and member of the Core Team for the organisation.  He is proud to be one of a handful of teachers in the UK to hold full ViP Teacher Authorisation.  To be a BAST Teacher Trainer is a huge honour, and Ian is excited to be involved in the training of excellent Singing Teachers and Vocal Coaches from around the UK and abroad.

Ian specialises in one-to-one vocal coaching, choral direction and arranging and Musical Theatre.  Academically his interests are in the issues surrounding the decline of singing as a past-time in Western Culture, “persistent tunelessness” and “adophobia”, which is the fear of singing.
