About this event
- Event lasts 2 hours
Come and discover some of the nocturnal wonders of Epping Forest on our bat and moth night.
Join our guided bat walk, where we'll use detectors to hear these magical creatures as they fly and hunt around us. We may also catch a glimpse of them as they perform their areal acroBATics!
Enjoy a rare chance to see the butterfly’s secretive cousins – the moths: marvel at their exquisite patterns and identify some common species with the help of our education officer. We will also have a range of quizzes, games, crafts and a trail for different ages and interest levels.
Your ticket includes a complimentary hot drink in our cosy Lodge, to complete your evening.
This is a family-friendly event, but solo adults will also enjoy the activities and are just as welcome. Adult tickets are cheaper because crafts are aimed at children.
How to book:
1) Click 'Get Tickets' and select 1 Adult ticket (with free car parking). This is your main ticket holder. (Please note: you must book an adult ticket, not just children's.)
2) Select 'Add Ons' to purchase a ticket for each additional adult or child.
3) Complete the additional booking information so we can accommodate your needs.
4) Check out
5) Save your confirmation email and mark your diary - You are all set!
We will send further updates nearer the date.
Frequently asked questions
Activities are aimed at ages 8+, however, younger children can attend. Crafts and games are included in the children's ticket price. The bat walk, moth trap, quizzes, trail and hot drinks are for all attendees.
The adult ticket includes entry to the event, the bat walk, moth trapping and refreshments. The child’s ticket also includes the crafts and they are more likely to play the games.
Hive staff will lead the events, explain activities, introduce rules, and assist all children where they can. However, carers will be expected to support their children with the practicalities and help enforce rules. It is the joint responsibility of all adults to keep the group safe.
This event will take place entirely on our grounds, which are wheelchair and buggy accessible. We also have accessible toilets. Please let us know if you have any additional requirements so we can ensure we offer you the best service possible.
Parking is included free but our car park is small. If you are attending with a friend, perhaps you can car share? Please select an adult ticket with carparking, then use 'add-ons' for anyone travelling with the main ticket holder.
Toilets and handwashing are available on site, but activities are often run in the forest so recommend all visitors arrive 15 minutes before the start to allow time to use facilities.
There is no café on site but we are offering complimentary hot drinks and biscuits. However, there are several options nearby for a full meal. The closest indoor eatery is The Owl pub, at Lippits Hill (family-friendly).
Please arrive around 10 minutes before the start of the event so we can check you in, lend you welly boots if required, and you can use the toilet.
If you cancel with more than 7 days’ notice, we can arrange a refund (minus the booking fee) or exchange event (subject to availability). Please note, if you cancel within 7 days of the event, you will be charged in full as we may not be able to fill your place. Thank you for understanding.
This is a family-friendly event but is also suitable for adults without children. Please book the number of adult/child tickets you require.
Our events will run in almost all weathers - Please make sure that you check the forecast and dress appropriately. In very high winds we may need to postpone the event for safety reasons but you would be offered the new date, a refund or an exchange event.
