Event description

Description

Join us for a fascinating insight into Ouseburn's nocturnal neighbours!

What noise does a Pipistrelle make when it cathes it's prey? How does a Daubenton's use it's tail as a spoon?

Join us on a Bat Safari to discover the sights and sound's of urban Ouseburn's Chiroptera. Using our expertise as bat surveyors, as well as our endless intrigue for bat ecology, we will introduce you to the diverse and awe-inspiring sounds of different bat species as they go about their nightly routines.

Our specialist equipment will also bring a new level to eavesdropping on bats... Our Echo Meter Touch 2 PRO, will allow you to be able to hear, but also see the ultrasonic echolocation calls of bats on a colour spectrogram! We will also have heterodyne Magenta 4 detectors to use, pefect to scroll through and pinpoint the exact individual contact calls of bats.

Perhaps we will hear the drip-dropping of large Noctules as they pass through their nightly commute, or even the rapid-fire of Daubentons as they hunt invertebrates over the water.

Please not that booking is essential and spaces are limited!

FAQ's

Can children join this Mini Exped?

This mini-exped is suitable for all ages. We think it's amazing that children are intrigued by the fascinating world of bats so under 18’s are very welcome to join under supervision of a responsible, paying adult. We have found that children aged 7 and over are able to enjoy and appreciate bat ecology most.

What is the terrain like?

The walk will take place on footpaths, and will follow the riverside path within Ouseburn, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please note that the route includes walking up concrete steps.

Are dogs allowed on this Mini Exped?

Sorry but pups aren't allowed on this walk, please get in touch with us at info@wildintrigue.co.uk if you have any queries about this.

Where is the meeting place?

We will meet at the Ouseburn South Car Park which neighbours the Cycle Hub, which can be found at: the Cycle Hub, Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne NE6 1BUNE6 1BU.

This is a free parking area. Please arrive around ten minutes before the start time of 8.30pm.

Cancellations and refunds

Bats aren't particulalrly fussy creatures and are active every night throughout summer, however heavy rain and strong winds would reduce bat activitiy, and would also make for an unpleasant midsummer stroll. If we need to cancel the event we will inform you a day in advance, and you will be refunded your full amount.

You will also be made aware of our rescheduled date in advance of it going public.

If you wish to cancel your booking with us, you may request a refund up to 7 days before the Bat Safari date and time.

How can I get in touch with you?

If you have any questions about our Ouseburn Bat Safari or our other Mini Expeds, feel free to contact us at info@wildintrigue.co.uk.
