About this event

Family & Education • Education

The event this evening will lead you in the search for bats along the River Crane to discover these fascinating nocturnal animals. The evening will start with a short introductory talk by Philip Briggs about bats and the species we might encounter - at least nine bat species occur locally. This will be followed by a leisurely walk along the River Crane looking for bats and listening to their calls on bat detectors. Come and see the aerial acrobatics of pipistrelles which feed regularly along the river, and maybe even see a Daubenton's bat skimming low over the water.

All places are booked already as this is a popular event. Please add your name to the waitlist and if tickets become available you will be sent an email.

Places are limited for safety reasons as we walk in the dark near a river. There are some bat detectors available to share. Kindly do not come if you do not have a ticket. Please wear sturdy footwear, bring an extra layer and waterproofs in case the weather turns cold or wet in the evening. Do bring a torch to shone on the ground to ensure your stay away from the edge of the river as it will be dark during the walk.

Due to safeguarding needs all children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please note that as this is an evening walk near the river it isn't suitable for children under the age of 12 years.

The event is free but donations can be made to the Bat Conservation Trust. We look forward to seeing you.
