About this event

  • 2 hours

Pensford Field is a wild field in the heart of Kew run by Pensford Field Environmental Trust. We had a bat survey in 2022 undertaken by Habitats and Heritage and we were delighted to find out we host 6 different types of bats. They appear to love our pond.

So we decided to invite back Will Scott-Mends, a Conservation Officer at Barnes Common Ltd to help us learn more about bats. With his expert knowledge and some luck, you will hopefully discover bats feeding at dusk and pick up their calls on bat detectors. We had a similar event last year but it was windy and the bats stayed away apart from one or two brave souls.

We hope for a lovely late spring evening, however weather can be unpredictable so please dress appropriately and wear sturdy footwear.

The event is subject to cancellation at short notice in case of wet or windy weather. Bats hate all types of rain and high winds. So we may decide to cancel and rearrange for another date - or hold a talk instead which would last a shorter period.

Please note that due to the conditions in the field and the number of bat detectors, places are limited and booking is essential. You may have to share a bat detector.

We will meet at the studio on the right opposite the entrance to the field. Children over 8 welcome, supervised by an adult throughout the event.

Tickets including eventbrite fees £6 or £4 for concessions.

Concessions are for children under 18, adults over 65 or anyone in receipt of means-tested benefits.

We are not able to of issue refunds if the event is cancelled and rearranged for another date because of weather. If you wish to cancel, no refunds are available.
