Please meet at the Sports Pavilion at the rear of the Children's Playground at Headstone Manor Park .

Volunteers from The Friends of Headstone Manor Park will be stationed at Pinner View car park to give directions to the Sports Pavilion

This event will include - Bat Walk, Bat Quiz, Storytelling, & Bat Origami

Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of Headstone Manor Park

We will have special bat detectors to allow us to listen out for the bats as they fly around hunting for insects.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

It is recommended to bring a torch and wrap up warm.

Bring wellies if wet.

Dogs are welcome as long as they are kept on a lead.

Bats are fascinating animals – the only true flying mammal. There are over 1,300 species of bats in the world, and more are still being discovered. Bats account for more than a quarter of mammal species in the UK and around 20% of all mammal species worldwide.

  • All UK bat species use echolocation to navigate and hunt for insects in the dark.
  • Bats are the only true flying mammals in the world.
  • A tiny pipistrelle can eat up to 3,000 insects in a night.
  • Bats are more closely related to humans than they are to mice.
  • The majority of UK bats eat insects . In the tropics bats also eat foods like fruit, flowers, frogs, fish, blood, even other bats.
  • Bats usually only have one baby a year and can live for up to 30 years

(To maintain the safety of the children we need to ensure we have the correct numbers - No unaccompanied children)

Please dress appropriately for the weather. The event will take place within Headstone Manor Park and there will be some short walks to explore and look for bats

Some of the walks will be over grassed areas which may be muddy - depending upon the weather conditions.

The event will take place come rain or shine however in the event of extreme weather you will be notified should we need to postpone the event.

How to get here:

Bus -

The H9 and H10 stop at Pinner View, which is a three minute walk away from Headstone Manor Park .

The H14 & 223 stops at Harrow View West, which is a six minute walk away from Headstone Manor Park.

Car Parking - There is a free car parking in Pinner View, opposite the Moat Cafe.

Cycling -

There are several bike racks located in the car park.

Train and Tube -

Harrow and Wealdstone (Bakerloo, Overground and National Rail) – is a 15 minute walk from Headstone Manor Park . Alternatively you can also take the H9 bus from outside the station.

Headstone Lane (Overground) – is a 15 minute walk from Headstone Manor Park and the simplest route

North Harrow (Metropolitan) – is a 15 minute walk from Headstone Manor Park . Alternately you can also take the H10 bus from outside the station
