Join bat expert Sarah Butcher for this Saving Devon's Treescapes event at DWT's Meeth Quarry Nature Reserve ( Meeth Quarry Nature Reserve | Devon Wildlife Trust). The reserve is a great place for wildlife, with many different habitats, including those favoured by a number of different bats, which we are hoping to encounter during this walk and talk event.
We will gather at the reserve's main car park, reached at the end of the lane taken from Station Road, EX20 3ER (What3Words clef.sketches.silent; grid reference SS 53989 08462) for an introduction to bats from Sarah, Chair of the Devon Bat Group. Sarah will show us how to use the bat detectors and as dusk approaches we will head off into the reserve to see what bats we can identify via their echolocation calls. Although fast, we are also likely to see them whizzing past.
This is an evening event and while we will try to stick to established flat paths, there may be some slopes and uneven ground. If you have any questions regarding mobility or accessibility please contact Lindsay on the email given below.
Please wear sturdy footwear and bring a torch if you can. Older children (12+) are welcome if accompanied by an adult, but sorry, no dogs allowed (excepting assistance dogs). Please note that there are toilets at the back of the workshop next to the main car park.
Full joining instructions will be sent out a couple of days before the event. In the meantime, please contact Lindsay with any questions lmahon@devonwildlifetrust.org.
Tickets will be available to book from 1st May.
