The Cinderella of Sustainable Building Projects - Bath Low Carbon Business Breakfast
7:45 am - 10:00 am, Tuesday 21st March 2017, Integral Engineering, Walcot Yard, Bath
UK building stock is considered amongst the least efficient in Europe, with housing alone contributing a quarter of our total carbon emissions. The vast majority of both commercial and residential property can benefit from retrofit and refurbishment - come to this breakfast event to hear more from Integral Engineering Design and Stride Treglown about their work - and opinions - on retrofit, reuse and refurbishment.
Grant Stratton, Director of Integral Engineering Design
Refurbishment or the adaptive re-use of buildings is more sustainable in terms of carbon usage than a new building project, and many of these buildings can achieve lower operational costs whilst meeting 21st Century standards. This aspect of sustainability in the construction industry is often overlooked; Integral Engineering Design will explore re-use, illustrated with some of their recent case studies.
Tristan Rhodes, Divisional Director and Head of Office and Workplace for Stride Treglown
A commonly held perspective among developers and investors is that the most sustainable buildings are new buildings. Older office buildings are considered outdated, inefficient and unable to deliver good returns to the investor. Tristan will explore how it is possible, via refurbishment, to deliver a commercially viable and environmentally friendly building that can often have greater character than new build.
