Batnon and Robin's Guide to Author Events
Event Information
Description
So you've got a book deal. Maybe you've even been published. You know how to write a book (you hope). But do you know how to sell it?
Today's authors don't just need to be good with words - they need to be event planners, public speakers, marketers and sales people.
We're Non Pratt, author of Trouble and Remix and ex-comissioning editor at Catnip Publishing, and Robin Stevens, author of the Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries and ex-assistant editor at Egmont. As full-time authors who have spent years as part of the publishing industry, we think we can help.
We aim to explain the different kinds of events an author will be expected to hold, and help you figure out how to create and hone a variety of presentations for schools, libraries and festivals. We'll help you lose your fear of everything from talking to an assembly full of fifteen-year-olds to talking fees with school librarians, and send you out onto the event circuit confident, prepared and clued-up.
- Author events: what will you face?
- Building your events: how can you prepare yourself?
- The money issue: talking fees!
- Going on tour: working with your publisher
- The day-to-day: keeping up momentum
This event is aimed at helping authors who have a contract with publishers, whether they are already published or on the journey to publication. Everyone is welcome, though!
