Join us on a moonlit bat detecting walk in search of some of the UK's 17 bat species, with local bat expert Sarah Butcher, from the Devon Bat Group.

Sarah will reveal their fascinating lifestyles and using bat detectors we will learn how to identify different bat species from their calls and how they fly.

All ages welcome.

No dogs allowed on this walk (unless assistance dogs).

This event is part of our Saving Special Species nature recovery work led by the East Devon National Landscape.


Important information:

  • Meet: Bolshayne Farm Car Park, Southleigh (middle of farm yard). Please note there are 2 Bolshayne Farms nearby! Use What Three Words below to be sure at he right place!

  • Distance: The walk will take a leisurely pace and the distance covered will be less than 1 mile - not suitable for wheelchairs.
  • Difficulty: The walk on paths that are generally not too muddy however can be uneven in places and can be muddy after heavy rain, so wellies or stout shoes are essential.
  • Torch: Bring torch to help guide your way
  • Clothing: Advisable to wear long trousers (minimising risk of ticks) and also warm clothing as night time temperatures can plummet
  • Stick with the group: There will be a large group, so please keep close to the walk leaders so you can hear us.
  • If extreme weather and high winds then this walk will not go ahead. Ruth will email you on the morning of the event should it be postponed.
