Battle of the Bulge: National Obesity Awareness Week
Event Information
About this Event
It’s a new year, the time when many people resolve to start a(nother) weight loss journey. But in the age of body positivity, are you #TeamLizzo or #TeamAdele?? In other words, are you about accepting oneself at any size, or do you think there is a “goal” weight individuals should strive for? How does community or culture affect expectations?
We're talking about it!
In recognition of National Obesity Awareness Week (11-18 January), the Health Promotion team at Black Beetle Health will come together to discuss the issue of obesity within the context of chronic disease, culture, and self-love.
Black Beetle Health is a public health community organisation dedicated to promoting health, wellbeing and equality for LGBTQ+ communities of colour by shedding light on important health disparities among these communities in the UK and around the world. Our mission is to promote health through evidence-based, peer-reviewed resource development and signposting to culturally-safe services and support groups for people of colour throughout the UK.
Join us on Sunday, 24 January at 6pm GMT as we put our heads together to answer our own questions about the effects of weight on sexual health, mental health and the emergence of chronic illness! It is going to be a dynamic session you won't want to miss!
The webinar will run as follows:
6:00 to 6:05 - Introduction to Black Beetle Health, Speakers and Topic – Sarah Grant
6:05 to 6:10 – Harvey Kennedy-Pitt, Sexual Health
6:10 to 6:15 – Adelaide Harris – Diversity and Inclusion/ Reproductive Health
6:15 to 6:20 – Phillipa Peart – Mental Health
